BACKGROUND

the challenge of improving already great products

In the spring of 2022, a mutual friend introduced Exceed Designs to me and we started working together. One of the first projects was to redesign the Tyrant razor mini and to change over the mechanism to a magnetic lock. In order to keep the look and feel of the original, I kept the original body but modified the internal structure in order to keep the design in line with the brand’s design language. A concern for the strength of the magnets drove the finish looks the most with the need for four individual magnets that are press fit into specially designed notches. Exploration to keep a user friendly open space to allow smooth action of opening and closing the blade was a priority. After several pages of sketches of exploration, the project was modeled in CAD and finishing touches applied including the introduction of an optional, reversible pocket clip.

REFINEMENT

THE IMPORTANCE OF DETAIL AND REFINEMENT OF A PRODUCT

Some of the projects I have helped refine are the AVAIR knife, the Hyzer hatchet, RAMPANT flashlight, and more. The AVAIR knife features BOHLER M390 MICROCLEAN blade steel, Ultra smooth operation on brass caged ceramic bearings and optional SKIFF bearings. This product includes reversible titanium pocket clip with a custom rear spacer that meets perfectly with the blade. The Hyzer Hatchet features a full titanium handle, and replaceable axe head with soon to be more options. The RAMPANT flashlight with full titanium construction, cnc milled pocket clip, custom rocker button, 14500 to 18650 battery compatible, USB-C charging, multiple LED options, IP86+ Waterproof, and Stock replaceable TiR lens has an optional lens upgrade.

These are just a few of the projects I have gotten to work on but they all have increased my skills as a designer, pushing me to pay attention to the tiniest detail to make the most premium product, while keeping in mind the manufacturing abilities and processes.

MY PART

the stirve to meet perfection

Ever since I started my creative works, I always wanted the perfect end result and working for EXCEED DESIGNS has helped me grow in knowledge to achieve a balance between form and function. These projects have helped me recognize and keep in mind the importance of knowing the entire manufacturing process and the capabilities to build easily manufacturable parts that help the vision of the customer come true with the best price possible.

For example, the below renders are from a project I got the chance to work on from the first idea sketch, to finish product. I then got to practice and refine my render skills to create photorealistic product visualization. This product is not yet released but updates and more details on the project will come soon.
